Civic Bank & Trust recently donated over one hundred "Trees in a Box" to the 3rd grade class at Eakin Elementary School for Arbor Day. Arbor Day is the first Friday of March in Tennessee.
Each student was given a box containing red maple seeds, a peat pot, growing medium, a booklet describing the tree, plant classification, tree anatomy with illustrations, and growing instructions.
The students at Eakin Elementary are active in gardening and composting. They have 5 raised-bed gardens that the students care for in the spring and they compost fruits and vegetables at the school.
